Rock Climbing Cusco FAQs
Here some frequently asked question about trekking and climbing
Who can join this tour? Do I need experience?
No prior experience is required! This tour is designed for all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced climbers. Our guides will provide comprehensive instruction on safety, gear use, and basic climbing techniques.
How will the altitude in Cusco affect the climbing?
The climbing areas (often in the Sacred Valley like Pachar or Cachimayo) are typically at a lower altitude than Cusco city (2,800m to 3,400m). However, we highly recommend spending 2-3 days acclimatizing in Cusco before your tour and taking it slow during your first climbs.
Is rock climbing in Cusco safe? What safety measures are in place?
Safety is our top priority. We use certified, inspected climbing routes with professional, bolted anchors. All guides are certified in rescue techniques and first aid. We provide top-quality, modern, and regularly inspected climbing equipment.
What climbing equipment is provided, and what should I bring?
We provide all technical gear, including harnesses, helmets, climbing shoes, ropes, and belay devices. You only need to bring a small daypack with water, sunscreen, sunglasses, comfortable clothes, and a prepared lunch/snacks (or check if lunch is included in your package).
Where exactly does the climbing take place?
Our full-day tours typically visit the popular climbing areas in the Sacred Valley of the Incas (such as Pachar, near Ollantaytambo) or the crags at Cachimayo, located about 30 minutes outside of Cusco. (You should customize this answer based on your specific location.)
What is the typical group size for the Full Day Tour?
We keep our group sizes small, usually limited to 6-8 participants per guide, to ensure personalized instruction, maximum safety, and plenty of time for everyone to climb.
What should I wear for the rock climbing tour?
Wear comfortable, flexible athletic or trekking pants/shorts and dress in layers. A light base layer, a fleece or mid-layer, and a wind/rain jacket are recommended as the weather in the Andes can change quickly.
What is included in the full-day tour price?
The tour price generally includes round-trip transportation from your Cusco hotel, all professional climbing gear, instruction from a certified guide, and (if applicable) lunch and snacks. (Customize this to your exact package details).
When is the best time of year to go rock climbing in Cusco?
The dry season (April to October) offers the most stable and sunny weather, making it the best time for climbing. However, climbing is possible year-round; the rainy season (November to March) can still offer great mornings, but afternoon showers are more common.
How physically demanding is the tour?
The tour is considered moderately physical. While the climbing itself can be strenuous, the routes can be adapted for all levels. There will be a short walk (approach) to the climbing wall, so a basic level of fitness is helpful.
