PALLAY PUNCHU AFTERNOON TOUR FAQs
Here some frequently asked question about our day tours in Cusco
How difficult is the Pallay Punchu hike?
The hike is moderate difficulty. The ascent takes about 30 minutes and covers approximately 1–2 km. The trail is short, but the high altitude of 4,790m (15,715 ft) makes it more demanding. We recommend spending at least 2 days in Cusco to acclimatize before the tour.
What is the best time of year to visit Pallay Punchu?
The best months are April through November (dry season), when skies are clear and trails are stable. The tour runs year-round, but we do not recommend February due to heavy rainfall and route maintenance.
Is Pallay Punchu less crowded than Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca)?
Absolutely. Pallay Punchu receives a fraction of Vinicunca's daily visitors, meaning you'll experience this stunning mountain in near-total peace and quiet — no queues, no tour buses, just you and the Andes.
Do I need to be acclimatized before the tour?
Yes, this is very important. Pallay Punchu sits at nearly 4,790m above sea level. We strongly recommend spending a minimum of 2 full days in Cusco before joining the tour to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
What time does the tour start and end?
Pickup from your hotel begins at 4:00 AM. The full tour, including breakfast, the hike, lunch, and return journey, wraps up back in Cusco at approximately 5:00–6:00 PM.
What is included in the tour?
The tour typically includes round-trip transport from Cusco, breakfast and lunch, and personal expenses are not included unless stated.
Is Pallay Punchu suitable for children?
The minimum recommended age is 8 years old. Due to the high altitude and physical demands of the hike, it is not recommended for people over 60 or those with serious heart conditions or respiratory issues.
Can I book a private tour?
Yes! Private tours are available for couples, families, or groups who prefer an exclusive experience with their own guide and transport. Minimum 2 people for group tours; private tours available for 1 or more.
How far in advance should I book the tour?
We strongly recommend booking at least 2 to 3 days in advance, especially during peak travel season (May to September). Spots are limited and fill up fast, so early booking guarantees your place.
How much does it cost?
A group tour typically starts at around 144 Soles (approximately $38 USD) per person, which usually includes pick-up and drop-off, transport, breakfast, and lunch. The entrance fee to Pallay Punchu Mountain is 25 Peruvian Soles, paid separately. Tips for guides and drivers are optional and at your discretion.
What time does the tour depart from Cusco?
Pick-up from hotels in Cusco typically begins between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM to ensure you arrive at Pallay Punchu Rainbow Mountain during the best light and before the afternoon crowds gather.
Is it suitable for children and beginners?
The tour has no strict age limits, but it's suggested that children be at least 6 years old, as younger children often struggle with the cold and high altitude. If bringing a child, dress them warmly and arrive in Cusco at least three days early to acclimatize.
